米国大学スカラーシップ協会よりご挨拶
日本の学生の皆さん アメリカの高等教育機関から提供される二つの奨学金についてのご紹介をさせて頂けることを大変嬉しく思います。そのひとつはアカデミック奨学金（一般奨学金）で、もうひとつはスポーツ奨学金です。これらの二つを通して、私たちはあなたにふさわしい財政支援を行うことができます。 私は、日米教育委員会（フルブライト奨学金プログラム）の責任者として長年従事した日本での経験を含め、これまでの仕事を通して国際教育交流の場に深く関わって参りました。私はこれらの経験を通して、アメリカの大学で学ぶことはあなた自身にとっても、そして受け入れる大学側にとっても、相互に大変貴重な経験となる、と自信を持って言うことができます。あなたは大学で学ぶ多くの専門的知識に加えて、アメリカ人学生のみならず世界中から集まった留学生達との交流を通して極めて多くの貴重な経験を手に入れることができます。そして受け入れる大学は、あなたがキャンパスの多様化に貢献してくれることを心から歓迎しています。 １９９７年にこのプログラムがスタートして以来、７０以上の大学と、そして１２００人以上の若者達がこのプログラムに参加して来ましたが、いよいよ才能あふれる日本人留学生の皆さんにもこのプログラムに参加して頂けることになりました。私は多くの皆さんがアメリカの大学のキャンパスで学ぶ姿を見ることができるのを楽しみにしています。あなたは多様化したキャンパスの中で相互理解を深める上での重要な貢献を行うと同時に、ますます相互の関係が深まり競争力が求められる現代社会において強い長所となりうる、教育とトレーニング、そして経験を身につけることが出来るでしょう。

Dear Japanese students: It is my great pleasure to introduce two scholarship opportunities offered by American institutions of higher education. One is the Academic Scholarship Program, and the other the Athletic Scholarship Program. We and our affiliates can make sure you get the financial support you deserve. I have been deeply involved in international educational exchange throughout my career, including my years as Executive Director and CEO of Japan-United States Educational Commission. Based on this professional experience, I can say with confidence that studying in the United States will enrich both you and the receiving institution. You will benefit enormously from the education and the interaction with not only American students but with international students from around the world. And the receiving institution will welcome your many contributions to diversifying the campus. Since 1997 more than 70 colleges and universities and more than 1200 young people have participated in these programs, enabling talented Japanese students to gain entry into the American educational system. I look forward to seeing many of you attend colleges and universities in the United States. You will be making your own important contributions to mutual understanding while at the same time receiving the education, training and experience that will give you a competitive edge in this increasingly demanding and interdependent world.
